Virginia Beach {+ A Memorial Day Giveaway!}

Hi everyone! My friend Kim from A Moving Story invited me to participate in her Memorial Day giveaway and I couldn’t be more excited. But first, I wanted to share some pictures from our weekend in Virginia Beach. I can’t tell you how much I needed to be near the ocean again. Even though it was a bit chilly, we had a fabulous time. I wish I could just stay there until it’s time for us to leave Virginia. I hope we can at least make it a regular thing!

About Me

My name is Erica.

On March 10, 2012, I became a mother to Evita Pilar.
Two months later, I graduated from the William S. Richardson School of Law.
I passed the bar in July, and became a lawyer in November.
On December 12, 2012, my family of three moved across the globe form Oahu, Hawaii, to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
We found out we were expecting #2 in September 2013.
In March 2014 we moved to Quantico, Virginia and welcomed Damian Julio on April 24.
In November 2014 we moved again, back to South Padre Island, while my husband completes another tour overseas.
Yeah… we move around a lot.
How did I get here?
I grew up on South Padre Island, Texas. I had big plans for after high school.
I was accepted to the Red McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
A few weeks before I graduated, this Marine I knew from back-in-the-day came home on leave and swept me off my feet.
I spent an amazing summer with him in Hawaii and decided that I could never leave;
however, my first semester in college was already paid for and I needed to get my ass back to Texas before it began. So I did.
I studied patiently in Austin and kept the long-distance thing going as I secretly filled out a transfer application to Hawaii.
On Christmas Day after my first semester at UT, I said goodbye to Texas and Aloha, again, to Hawaii.Six months later, on June 10, 2006, Daniel and I eloped on beautiful Kahala beach.
It was a last-minute thing, and we didn’t tell anyone until after the fact.
Some people speculated that I was pregnant; others were convinced we wouldn’t make it a year.
They were wrong.

However, after only one year of life on the rock, Daniel got orders to Camp Pendleton.
We packed up our things and moved to Oceanside, CA.
I was homesick for Hawaii, but made the most out of SoCal life.
I became a certified personal trainer through NCSF and worked at gym in Encinitas.
I continued my college education at San Diego State University, but by that time my major had switched to Geography.

I had realized that Geography was my true passion.
I enjoy learning about cultures, rocks, plants, and the ocean.
I love the world and have an intense desire to see it all.
Some call it wanderlust but I think its wanderlove.

After a year in So Cal, it was time for Daniel to deploy again. I returned to Hawaii to finish up my degree.
I spent the summer he was deployed studying abroad in the Galapagos Islands.
After graduating, I returned to California to reunite with Daniel, this time in 29 Palms, CA.

Living in the desert made us miss Hawaii even more, so we fought to get stationed there again.
I applied for law school at my alma mater, the University of Hawaii, and was accepted.
I left in the Fall of 2009, not knowing where Daniel would get orders.
Thankfully, he was able to join me in December.

We spent the next three years in Hawaii.
Besides all the work I had to do in law school, and another one of D’s deployments… life was good.
The summer before my last year of law school, I found out I was pregnant.
And that’s when my blogging life began.

This blog began as a modern baby book, a way to keep family and friends updated on my pregnancy journey.
It has expanded into a way to document life and hoard memories.
To give advice and take advice.
To say, “I was here.”Sometimes I have a lot to say.
Other times I let pictures do the talking.
